INJURY UPDATE-From Bear Grylls (Man vs Wild)- "Sorry for the radio silence over the last 24 hours - but I have had a bit of an accident. We were all flying across the ice using the kite skis, which is when you use the big flexi-foil kites on long lines attached to your harness that propels you across the snow and ice. I was doing speeds of over 50 kilometres an hour when I hit a patch of blue ice, lost a ski and got catapulted into the air, crashing down very hard. There is no doubt my helmet saved my life, but I smashed my shoulder and hands and was badly winded. I knew at once I had done something bad to my shoulder and was in absolute agony, my shoulder was drooped down and a bone was sticking out at a weird angle. I am safe at our expedition basecamp now and the shoulder is all strapped up tight, but is very painful. The bottom line is I am lucky." With hunting season among us and the obvious concerns, wear bright clothing when out in the woods, stay to the trails and avoid the deep woods! Some people you would just not to meet in the street let alone the deep woods and swamps, BELIEVE ME!! TWI was involved in an event that lasted a few days and led to a few arrests. The Texas game Wardens and a few Law Enforcement agencies all coordinated with incredible speed and accuracy which ensured our safety...I thank you. This is one event that could have had a terrible outcome. In addition, let someone know where you might be or leave a map in your vehicle and bring enough supplies in a pack for a few days, you never know when you might have to bunker down for a bit! If you come across something that feels or looks wrong however obvious...GET OUT of there asap and make a call, do not compromise your own safety or underestimate what might be going on!
